Of Norman origin, the Bissett name is said to be related to the French surname, Bizet. The Bissetts are believed to have arrived in Scotland along with King William the Lion after he returned from captivity in England in 1174.
The first recorded bearer of the name is a Hericus Byset sometime before 1198 and the clan would go on to make a success of themselves – gaining land in Morayshire.
The principal line of the Bissett name is now located near the ruined house of Lessendrum in Aberdeenshire and the family is still successful there today.
