Chattan Clan

The Chattan clan are unique in that they did not follow the traditional pattern of many Scottish clans and instead became a community or confederation of clans consisting of various descendants.

The most widely accepted theory about their origin is that they are descended from Gillichattan Mor, who was the great servant of Saint Chattan.

During the Reign of Malcolm II, they were given the control of lands at Glenloy and Loch Arkaig which would go on to include the clan seat at Torcastle.

The whereabouts of the current clan chief are unknown.
