Traditionally a sept of the larger Farquharson Clan, the Christie name is likely a shortened version of the word “Christian” or perhaps “Christopher”. The clan first apeared in official records in Edinburghshire (modern day Midlothian) before the year 1100 and are said to have been found living in Fife in the 15th century.
The Christies have produced multiple famous members over the years, perhaps none more so than Thomas Christie (1773-1829) who successfully introduced a vaccine against smallpox in Ceylon.
