Cockburn Clan

The origin of Clan Cockburn appears to come from a land called Cukooburn in Roxburghshire.

The earliest recorded use of the name was from a Peter de Cokburne who witnessed a grant of land around 1200.

The family lost most of their ancestral land in the 18th century however they retain their clan seat at Langton.

Clan Cockburn is an armigerous clan which means that the clan is registered with the Court of the Lord Lyon but does not currently have a chief recognised by the Lyon Court.
