The Colquhoun name is derived from the gaelic phrase ‘cuil chumhann’ meaning ‘narrow corner’.
During the reign of Alexander II in the 13th century, the family held Dunglas Castle near Dumbarton. However, a century later, they would go on to gain their currently territories on the shores of Loch Lomond, near Luss, where their current clan seat, Rossdhu House, is located.
The current clan chief of Colquhoun is Sir Malcolm Rory Colquhoun, 9th Baronet of Luss.
