Clan Duncan is believed to have been descended from King Malcolm II, the last king to be directly descended from Kenneth McAlpine –the first King of Scots according to legend.
The Duncan name itself is originally believed to have been a forename and is one of the earliest known names in Scotland – having originated from the Dalriadan Celtic Scots who arrived from Ireland to colonise the south-west around the 4th century.
Clan Duncan is an Armigerous clan -meaning there is no present Chief of the name Duncan. It has held two historic castles – Lundie Castle near Coupar Angus and Camperdown House in Dundee.
