Hope Clan

Despite possibly being from native Scots origin, the immediate ancestor of the principal Hope family line, John de Hope, is said to have come from France to Scotland in 1537. There, he is said to have settled in Edinburgh and his grandson, Sir Thomas Hope is said to have acquired the estate of Craighall in Fife where the family would thus settle.

The senior line of Hope, the Baronets of Craighall, still survive to this day and are recognised chiefs of the name. The current clan chief is Alexander the 19th baronet.
