Innes Clan

Descended from Berowald, a Flemish nobleman who was given the Barony of Innes in 1160 by Malcolm IV, it would be Berowald’s Grandson Walter who would assume the Innes name to match the lands he controlled after being given them in a charter by Alexander II in 1226.

The clan’s historic seat is at Innes House, a grand building near Elgin, which was built in the early 17th century. The clan is an Armigerous clan meaning it does not currently have a chief.
