MacAulay Clan

Coming from a background of great historical importance, it is believed that the MacAulay clan are one of the seven members of the Siol Alpin – a group of clans said to have been descended from Kenneth MacAlpin, King of Picts – the man often credited as being the first King of Scotland.

After establishing themselves in the coming years, the clan would settle in Argyll and Bute near the modern-day town of Helensburgh and would make their clan seat at Ardencaple Castle in the area.

Most of the castle was demolished in the 1950s to make way for buildings related to the Faslane military base which now dominates the area and today the clan are also without a chief after attempts to petition the Lord Lyon in 2002 were denied.

Despite this, the clan retains a very active community with many recent clan gatherings taking place in the last decade.
