The MacBeth clan’s supposed ancestor is MacBeth – the King of Scots between 1040 and 1057, however, it is likely that the majority of MacBeths were descended from the Bethunes of Fife who can trace their heritage back to the French town of Béthune.
It is hard to distinguish exactly where each branch of the MacBeth clan originates due to many families changing their name to the more anglicised ‘Beaton’.
Today, the MacBeth name is spread out across Scotland with no clan chief or specific clan seat. The clan does, however, have its own tartan, crest and motto which can be viewed on this page.
