The name MacEwan comes from the Gaelic name MacEòghainn meaning “son of Eòghann”.
The MacEwan clan has multiple septs located around the country including the Ewens of Otter, the MacEwans of Galloway, the MacEwans of MacDougall, and the MacEwans of Clan Cameron.
Therefore, with so many different septs, the clan are not associated with one piece of land but instead with the regions of Cowal, Galloway, Lennox, and Perthshire.
The clan currently has no agreed clan chief and as such is considered an armigerous clan.
