The Macfie clan are one of the ‘Siol Alpin’ – a group of seven clans who are believed to have been descended from Kenneth MacAlpin, the man commonly believed to have been the first king of a united Scotland.
The clan would go on to serve under the powerful Clan Donald and would become personally associated with the Island of Colonsay in the Inner Hebrides. It is here that they would construct their traditional seat at Dùn Eibhinn – a hill fort located on the island.
Today, the clan is armigerous – meaning it has no clan chief.
