Originating in the western Highlands, the MacInnes clan takes its name from the Gaelic Mac Aonghais meaning “sons of Angus”.
The clan are most associated with their historic seat at Kinlochaline Castle at Movern on the western edge of Scotland.
Currently, the MacInnes clan does not have a clan chief and it is unlikely one will be found. This is because the clan’s chief and heirs were assassinated in the 14th century leaving no possible way to find out who would be entitled to the position.
