Believed to have been descended from Maurice Fitzgerald, an Anglo-Norman who moved to Ireland, the MacLaines of Lochbuie are said to have moved to Scotland in the 13th century.
The clan would eventually settle in the Scottish Highlands, becoming particularly associated with the Isle of Mull where they would build their historic clan seat – Moy Castle – at Lochbuie.
The current chief of MacLaine of Lochbuie is The Much-Honoured Lorne Gillean Ian McLaine of Lochbuie, Baron of Moy.
