Believed to have arrived in Scotland from Ireland during the Scoto-Irish settlement era, the MacTavish clan are closely associated with the Scottish Highlands, particularly the district of Argyll.
The historic seat of the clan is the caste of Dunadry. It is no longer known exactly when this castle was built. However, despite no longer being visible, some remnants can be found around the area of Knapdale in Argyll.
The clan chief of MacTavish is Steven Edward Dugald MacTavish of Dunardry.
