Makgill Clan

The Makgill name is believed to have been derived from the Gaelic Mac an ghoill meaning “son of the lowlander” or “son of the stranger.”

The clan are most commonly associated with the Scottish Lowlands and in particular the area of Galloway.

The current clan chief is Ian Arthur Alexander Makgill, 14t Viscount of Oxfuird.
