Maxwell Clan

The name Maxwell is believed to have been named after Maccus Well, a pool in the River Tweed, near Kelso in the Scottish Borders.

The clan itself is closely associated with the Scottish Lowlands, particularly Dumfries. It is here that the clan’s historic seat is located, Caerlaverock Castle – a tremendous moated castle which still looks extremely impressive to this day.

The clan is currently armigerous – this means that it does not currently have a recognised clan chief.
