Named after lands in Perthshire, the Moncrieffe surname is derived from the Gaelic Monadh croibhe, meaning sacred bough.
It is here in Perthshire that the clan traditionally resided and where their clan seat at Moncrieffe stood from the end of the 17th century until 1959 – when it was burned down by a fire.
