Believed to have been a sept of the larger MacKay clan, Morgan is a common name throughout the United Kingdom. The name first existed in Scotland in the regions of Aberdeenshire and Sutherland and is likely to have then spread down the east coast to Fife.
Today, the clan retain a clan society which was established in 1994. This group was set up to help Morgans around the world trace their family origins and attempts have been made to get the clan recognised by the Lord Lyon as a clan in its own right rather than a sept of the larger MacKay Clan.
