Descended form the Earls of Lennox who were one of the Celtic royal families of Scotland and Ireland, the Napiers were first recorded in Scottish history on a charter some time before 1290.
The family would eventually settle in central Scotland and would use both Kilmahew Castle and Merchiston Tower as their clan seats – the latter still acting as one of the clan seats today.
The current clan chief of Clan Napier is Francis Napier, 15th Lord Napier.
