Deriving their name from the Brittonic “Ocel-fa” which means “high plain”, the Ogilvie clan are traditionally associated with the district of Angus where their historic lands were located.
It is in Angus that Airlie Castle, the clan’s historic seat, was located – a castle that was burned down in 1640 and replaced by a mansion house that still stands today.
The current clan chief of clan Ogilvie is David Ogilvy, 13th Earl of Airlie.
