Believed to have been of Anglo-Saxon origin, the Swintons are possibly descended from nobles of Northumbria in England.
North of the border, the clan would settle in the Scottish Lowlands, particularly in Berwickshire. It is here that the chiefly family stayed at the clan’s historic seat, Swinton House.
The current clan chief of Clan Swinton is Rolfe William Swinton of that Ilk.
