Originally hailing from Berwickshire in southern Scotland, the Wedderburn clan first appeared in Scottish history in 1296 on the ragman roll – a document in which the Scottish nobility and gentry subscribed allegiance to King Edward I of England as his army advanced north into the country in order to keep their lands.
The clan would go on to settle in Angus – then known as Forfarshire – and the chief family would make their seat at Blackness House.
The current clan chief is Henry David Scrymgeour-Wedderburn.
