Deriving their name from the Gaelic uaimh, meaning “cave”, the Wemyss Clan are a Scottish Lowland clan generally associated with Fife.
It is in Fife that the historic seat of the clan, Wemyss Castle, is located. The castle was built in the 15th century and restored in the 1950s.
The current clan chief is Michael Wemyss of that Ilk.
