Young
The name Young is synonymous with the word, younger, which was used in Scotland to describe an heir to a feudal title. It is from this title that the Young clan is believed to have originated from and although the progenitor of the clan is unknown, it is first shown in Scottish records in 1271 when Malmor and Ade Young appeared in a document related to Dumbarton.
The clan were originally associated with the Scottish Borders, particularly Roxburghshire, and held Rue Castle, near Jedburgh. They would then go on to hold Auldbar Castle in Angus and Harburn Castle in West Lothian.
Clan Young are armigerous - meaning they do not currently have a clan chief.
The only sept of the Scottish Young Clan is Young.
